November 5, 2008: Cotton Creek, Mississppi

This morning we got up early for a ride around the park by the marina in Florence. This area is a flood plain that belongs to the TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority, a Federal Agency started after the depression to build dams for hydroelectric power). But the city was using it as a city park with a paved bike lane, picnic tables and shelters and grassy lawns. We had a 4.5 mile ride down the water front as the mist was rising from the river.

Back at the boat, we cast off past the beautiful boats on the dock, retracing our path back to
Pickwick Lake.

We had a sunny morning on the water and around midday we reached Grand Harbor marina. The friendly dock
master there was filled with information about the Tenn-Tom and Tom bought the River Guide book there (which will give me info for the blog). We also filled up with diesel fuel for $3.25 per gallon. What a bargain!

As we cast off from the Marina we left the Tennessee River to enter the state of Mississippi and the Yellow River that leads to the Tenn-Tom
waterway entrance at the Whitten Dam. We reached this point as the sun was setting. We have a beautiful anchorage in Cotton Creek where we are seeing some marsh grass on the banks for the first time in months.
