March 17-19, 2009: Naples

Today we pulled out of the little cove, past preening pelicans and beautiful palm trees. Florida really displays amazing natural beauty.

We traveled south to reach Naples with lots of reasons to find a marina for a few days. We have a broken windlass (anchor lift), a broken dinghy lift, TV’s which do not work with cable, and a sudden business trip for me to Chicago.

On the way up the Gordon river to Naples we passed incredible waterfront estates – we heard that the average beach place is $4 million.

Tom found us a place at the Naples Boat Club where a slip owner was out for a few days. We have now reached the land where our boat is the small one. We are now docked across from the 110 foot yacht, Gigabyte, which has a rear door that when raised allows a ski boat and two jet skis to be launched out of the back of it. Wow!

And while I was in Chicago Tom got everything on the boat fixed and rode his bike. We did get a chance to try out the pool with the little water fall at the marina late in the afternoon on a day it was about 80 degrees.

Thursday night we took the dinghy down the waterway to a little shopping area called Tin City and to a waterfront restaurant, Crab Pinchers, where we had cheese crab dip – yummy.

So we are ready to go again tomorrow, south to the Keys.
