April 4, 2007

April 4, 2007

Today was our first morning on TNTY. So we slept well last night with the boat gently rocking, soft lapping water, and the heating making various little whirring sounds. It was good that we decided to sleep with the hatch over the bed closed, because when we woke up, it was raining and about 48 degrees. But we had a great breakfast using our pretty new nautical dishes we got for Christmas from Julie Anna, Brian, and Laurie. Then some of the staff from the Marina came to show us how to work all the boat gadgets and we ran a load of wash to try out our Italian made washer! Tom has decided that he would like to use the guest bath since he can stand up straight in there! The master bath works just fine for me, and I discovered that the medicine cabinet door opens so there is storage behind it - Prime real estate on a boat!

This afternoon it stopped raining and we took the boat out for the first time! Wow! We saw two pairs of osprey just beginning to build their nests. Our Captain (teacher) said that the same pair come back there each year. He also told us about a little town just below us called St Michaels where the Americans tricked the British during the American Revolution. They turned out all the lights in town and took lanterns out into the woods. When the British fleet attacked, there canons were aimed at the wrong location! Tom and I each got a drving lesson and docked the boat a few times. – some white knuckle time for me, but it is really not hard. We did fine and more lessons tomorrow...
