June 12: Back to Mechanicsville, NY

We have made the trip back to Mechanicsville and are spending the night in the smallest incorporated town in New York State – less than 1 square mile. We are tied up at the city dock just south of New York Lock #3. There is a bubbling creek running through town that reminds me of the creek in Montreat, NC. They had a rubber ducky race in it recently for charity. In Montreat, we used to make boats out of magnolia leaves and see how long they would float.
Including the 3 locks we traversed yesterday, we have now risen 32.8 feet in height from sea level as we traveled from Waterford to Mechanicsville. We walked around the place tonight and had some good pasta at the new restaurant downtown, Matteo’s Trattoria in an interesting old storefront.
