August 16, 2008: Beausoleil Island

Today was really a wonderful day of rest. We reveled in the sunshine, and swam out to the Ogitchidawkwe Naaniibwe Islands which were limestone outcroppings from the Cedar Spring campground. The water is very clear and the huge stone boulders were warm for exploring.

Later we moved TheNextThirtyYears a few miles to Chimney Bay and went swimming again. out to a huge stone in the center of the bay. We counted over 40 boats of all sizes anchored out in this bay enjoying the primitive beauty of the place. We met a couple who had seen our boat weeks ago in Montebello and recognized us. They came over to learn more about our boat because they are going to the Annapolis boat show in October. We also met a couple, the Grahams, on the little Oaks dock who were doing the loop as well. They are from Raeford, NC - such a small world.

We took the dinghy out this afternoon trying to find the way to a community worship service we had heard would be tomorrow. An hour and a half later, we think we know where it is and hope to find the real place tomorrow. Our travels took us up Big Dog Channel which is extremely narrow and twistie. We hope it will be less crowded in the morning than it was at 4:00 PM this afternoon. It was fun to see several little stone men built on shallow spots as a signature of the culture of the native peoples.
