October 18, 2008: Green Turtle Marina, Grand Rivers

On Saturday, it was fun to sleep in and have waffles for breakfast overlooking the beautiful boats across the water. We spent today in the marina mostly, washing the boat and our clothes and then took a bike ride around the town.

We found the IGA grocery store and the fun shopping and
dining village of Patti’s 1880’s Settlement. There were several restaurants mostly decorated for Christmas, gift shops in old log cabins with stained glass windows and a wedding chapel. There were interesting things to buy like the huge windchimes for $1800 and also a lawn sized nativity scene. All the staff were dressed in clothing denoting the 1880's and it was all quite charming.

Grand Rivers is in an area called the Land between the Lakes bordered by Barkley Lake (the Cumberland River) on the east and by the Tennessee River to the west. So we rode our bikes across town to what was called Lighthouse Bay. There we watched a tug boat pushing his barges in the bright sunshine down the Tennessee River.
