October 23, 2008: Nashville

What a wonderful day. It began with a tour of Nashville with Brooke and Derick, some great young friends from our past. We saw the Vanderbuilt University and hospital as well as their new Symphony Center. The tour also included breakfast at the Pancake Pantry, a local tradition with some delicious sweet potato and pecan pancakes, grits and eggs over easy. Returning to the waterfront, we took them out for a short ride down the river to see the skyline before we had to hug them goodbye.

We then took a quick trip back to Rock Harbor where we filled up our reservoir with water and ate our peanut and banana sandwiches on our ride home.

Tom’s cousin Bob and Sue came to visit this afternoon and we took them cruising in the opposite direction – upstream for a little sight seeing. We saw the old cave that sheltered the Canadian French fur trader from some waring Indians in the late 1800's. It was hollowed out of the rock wall overlooking the river.

There was a beautiful scene of the river skyline returning to town including seeing a very long train crossing over the Cumberland River.

Tonight we went to the famous Wildhorse Saloon for their charity night which was a fund raiser (cover charge) for the Nashville United Way. They had some talented volunteer singers for the evening which replaced their line dancing lessons which we had been hoping to have. We had some juicy spareribs for dinner and had our picture made with one of their horsy customers.
