April 30, 2009: Baker's Bay, Guana Cay

We made our last trip into Treasure Cay this morning in our dinghy carrying our multicolored basket from Honduras with all our beach supplies. We made it a point to walk on the beach renowned as one of the 10 prettiest in the world by National Geographic. The blue of the sky was an awesome contrast to the seafoam green of the water lapping on the shore. The sand was soft and had really a uniquely fine quality to it; it stuck to your feet coating them like paint. This truly is a lovely tropical paradise.

We took advantage of the wireless internet on the patio, which is something of great value when it is difficult to find. Email, weather websites and news for home appear at your fingertips. The dock master also agreed for us to bring TNTY’s into the dock to refill our water tanks for the bargain price of $5, the best deal we have had.

So this afternoon, we are reversing our path north to head home with tonight’s destination being Baker’s Bay on Guana Cay. It was funny to hear the Abaco Sea song on THE radio station- Radio Abaco FM 93.5 The words to the chorus of the song were perfect for us today:

“We’re gonna sail away, to Baker’s Bay

We’re gonna play in the sun, become more Bahamian every day,

We’ll sit and watch the sun go down, listening to the island sounds,

Just another perfect day, on Baker’s Bay”

Hi, Baker's Bay is in serious trouble, a golf course developer is building a McMansion resort, and all Bahamian residents of the island are fighting it because, according to Sierra Club and others, the resort will destroy the coral reef and ruin the unique culture of the island.
