May 7, 2009: Palm Beach, Fl

Tom has reported back on his rides around town. Palm Beach seems to be the high rent district for the county with the expensive houses and an exclusive shopping area nearby (Tiffany’s, etc.). The classy, medium income area is across the Royal Palm Bridge in West Palm Beach. We crossed the bridge circling underneath it on the bike trail to see a little bit more of the town which Henry Flagler built for the workers who built his mansion.

So our outing for today was that we biked over to a buzzing outside shopping mall called City Place. It was distinctive with brick walkways and massive palm trees lining the walks. We saw the tall white stucco Harriet Himmel theater with its spraying fountain out front, a wedding and event venue. We window shopped, ate at Panera, and went to see the movie, The Soloist, which was an interesting role for Robert Downey, Jr. considering his long path to recovery from drug addition. We soaked up the ambiance of the fair-like atmosphere.

Tonight is our last night on the boat for a while, because we
are leaving tomorrow for a trip to Atlanta, Montreat and Raleigh to check out our real lives.
